How can I fix a rusty pedal chain?

I got an e-mail from a customer who bought a Mapex Double Bass Pedal a couple years back. His question was:

My double pedal's chain has started to rust.

I've been told to use WD-40, but I don't know if that's going to get rid of the rust, or just kind of lubricate it.

The solution is rather simple, any type of lubricant will do the job. Make sure to clean the over spray off the pedal board so your foot doesn't slip. You should put a little spray on the linkage to keep it from squeaking. Always keep everything lubricated at least once a month and at the same time you can go over the pedal and tighten any set screws that have come loose.

Regular care and maintenance of your hardware and accessories will ensure years of enjoyment and quality sound.
